Bryan's Guide to Spring Cleaning: Tips, Playlist, and More!
Spring is here and you know what that means - it's time for some good old-fashioned spring cleaning! As a designer, I have learned that a clean and organized space is key to a happy and productive life. So, I'm excited to share some of the tips and tricks that I use, and a playlist to help you get started on your own spring cleaning journey. The playlist is at the bottom of the post!
Tip #1: Split up the work
Spring cleaning can be overwhelming, so I recommend breaking it up into two days over the weekend. This way, you won't feel burnt out and will have time to tackle any small tasks throughout the week. Sometimes, depending on the size of your home or if you just want to deep clean everything for a complete reset, it might even be a good idea to split up the work over a few weekends.
Tip #2: Curated Spring Cleaning Playlist
Cleaning can be a lot more enjoyable with some great tunes. That's why I've created a curated spring cleaning playlist with songs that inspire me to keep moving and grooving through the tasks of spring cleaning. Some of my favorite songs on the playlist include "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners, "It’s My House” by The Boss Diana Ross, and even a song from the animated Cinderella, for when you’re scrubbing the floors. Music is essential for me when I’m in cleaning mode, and now you know what I’m listening to when I’m refreshing my space. The playlist is roughly an hour and a half long, but if you’re listening on Spotify, similar songs will keep coming so you can stay on task!
Tip #3: Don't Forget to Treat Yourself
After all that hard work, you deserve a treat! Whether it's a relaxing bath or a delicious snack, make sure to congratulate yourself for setting up your home for a beautiful rest of the year. Personally, I love to treat myself to yet another cup of coffee and some dark chocolate.
Bonus tip: Clean from the top down
I like to clean from the top down, starting with the bedroom and living room first. I typically clean the bathroom and kitchen last as they get the most use throughout the day. Seeing tracked dirt on my just-mopped floors will send me into a frenzy, so cleaning them last helps me keep my sanity.
Now, you may be wondering why my dining room wasn't included in the spring cleaning checklist. Well, that's because it's currently playing dress-up as the brand's home studio! And let's be honest, it's hard to find the motivation to clean a room that's being put to good use. We can’t wait to be able to move the business into its own space as it is rapidly outgrowing our little bungalow. Also, I want my dining room back so I can host dinner parties like I used to pre-pandemic.
Lastly, I was recently watching HGTV Handmade's YouTube series featuring Rajiv Surendra —Kevin Gnapoor, mathematician and badass MC, for my fellow Mean Girlies— and I’m so inspired by his way of living life more beautifully and sustainably. I’m convinced he can do anything, and I highly recommend checking out the series. GOALS. And falling down a deep Martha Stewart TikTok rabbit hole also inspired me to tackle the great task of Spring Cleaning (of course, I’m on Martha Stewart-Tok!). Cleaning has always been a part of my life, and not only because I grew up on Martha and read Joan Crawford’s lifestyle book, “My Way of Life” at possibly too early an age. I spent many years helping my grandma with her housecleaning services. I loved spending time at the houses she cleaned, especially a two-story San Diego home owned by family friends who were antique dealers. The house was filled with the most beautiful precious things, and it more likely than not informed my decorating style (I’m told it’s called “Grandmillennial”).
So there you have it, my personal guide to spring cleaning. I hope you enjoyed the Spring Cleaning Checklist I put in the email and I hope these tips and tricks prove useful and inspire you to tackle your own spring cleaning goals and create a happy and productive space. Don't forget to check out the curated playlist for some cleaning motivation! Once my Spring Clean is complete, I can get back to working every day; after all, we’ve got a collection to launch!
