Our Responsibility

You, like all of us, are concerned about our planet; and why wouldn’t you be? It’s our only home.

Many people have claimed over the years that fashion is either the second or third highest polluting industry in the world. While it’s quite difficult to say exactly where it falls on the pollutant ranking since very few studies have been consistent, some things cannot be ignored.

Did you know?

The U.S. EPA estimates that textile waste occupies nearly 5% of all landfill space. While the EPA estimates that the textile recycling industry recycles approximately 3.8 billion pounds of post-consumer textile waste (PCTW) each year, this only accounts for approximately 15% of all PCTW, leaving 85% in our landfills. (Source: 1, 2)

Another thing to think about is the amount of water used in textile and garment production. In some countries where garments are made, the water used in the dyeing and treating process are dumped into rivers and lakes. This causes dire situations for wildlife and the environment.

What this means for us:

Adding ourselves into the ever-growing fashion landscape, we understand our impact and responsibility to the Earth. By keeping everything from our suppliers to manufacturers as close to home in California, with our offices based in Central California and our factory and suppliers in Los Angeles, we’re able to reduce our carbon footprint and direct impact.

In early 2020, the California Senate passed Senate Bill 205 which regulates industries that contribute to wastewater pollution. This bill requires those regulated industries to obtain permits which in turn puts the kibosh on illegal dumping of chemicals into our lakes and rivers. This is just one of many reasons we love being a California-based company!

“Greenwashing”

You may have heard the term “Greenwashing”. If you haven’t, it’s when a company claims to be eco-friendly, but is rarely actually eco-conscious. One of the main reasons for our choice in a production partner (aside from it being Woman-Owned and Operated!) is their commitment to sustainability. It’s in everything from the use of Corozo buttons (buttons made from the seeds of the Corozo palm) to the way fabric is cut in production. And while we certainly don’t claim to be 100% sustainable at this stage, we are committed, much like our factory, to do the absolute best that we can for our planet.

In the effort of being 100% transparent about our processes, we invite you to contact us if you have any questions about our brand or want to know more about our sustainability practices by using the contact form in our Contact section.
